Description

Notorious and aggressive Union general (1814-1879) who distinguished himself at the Battle of Williamsburg in 1862 and as a result was promoted to major general; later that year he led troops into battle at the Second Battle of Bull Run and Antietam. Desirable 2.25 x 4.25 carte-de-visite photo of 'Fighting Joe' in uniform with sword in hand, published by E. & H. T. Anthony from a negative from Brady's National Portrait Gallery, signed on the reverse in bold ink, "Joseph Hooker, Maj. Genl." In very good to fine condition, with heavy staining in the bottom border on the front. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder.
