Confederate major general (1836-1906), known as 'Fightin' Joe,' who led his troops in vigorous opposition to Sherman during the Atlanta campaign. ALS, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.25 x 8.25, no date. Handwritten letter, in part: "It would be a good plan to hire some negro man to put a square wire fence around the old Gin House so as to leave a space between the fence & Gin House of about 15 or 20 feet and then get them to plant a row of trees around the Gin House. Old wire will do & it will keep the stock off while the trees are small." In fine condition.
