Original program for the "Surprise Dinner to the Master Leopold Godowsky" held at the Astor Hotel on February 13, 1935, 8 x 10.5, signed on the back cover in pencil, "Albert Einstein." In very good to fine condition, with interior page loose with binding staples removed, spine of the cover reinforced inside with tape, and a later postcard depicting Einstein affixed inside the back cover.
The New York Times covered the event: 'Professor Albert Einstein joined with many celebrities in music in paying a tribute last night to Leopold Godowsky, pianist and composer, at a surprise dinner and informal musicale given on the anniversary of Mr. Godowsky's 65th birthday at the Hotel Astor.' Albert Einstein, widely known for his love of music and proficiency on the violin, had been honored a year earlier at Carnegie Hall during an event organized by virtuoso pianist Leopold Godowsky. A desirable association piece, representing Einstein's love of classical music.
