Description

Signer of the Declaration of Independence from South Carolina (1746-1809). Partly-printed DS, signed “Tho. Heyward, Jnr.,” one page, 12.75 x 7.5, June 13, 1788. As the Circuit Judge of Charleston, South Carolina, Heyward directs the sheriffs of South Carolina to apprehend Thomas Roberts, a former Continental Army officer who fought at the Battle of Camden, and bring him to court to answer charges that he owed 242 pounds, two shillings, and six pence. Signed prominently by Heyward in the left margin, which also bears the original paper seal. In fine condition.
