Description

American poet, diplomat, and politician (1754-1812) who helped draft the Treaty of Tripoli in 1796, published the epic poem 'The Columbiad' in 1807, and served as minister to France in 1811. ALS signed “J. Barlow,” one page, 5 x 7, March 10, 1802. Handwritten letter on a financial matter, in part: "Her is a sketch of our acc't…bal. due me fr. 5187.29—see whether we agree. There were besides some parcels of wine, porter & empty bottles, past between us, on which score I believe I am in your debt—I leave it to you to say how much." In very good to fine condition, with a mounting strip to the left edge and light overall foxing.
