King of Sweden from 1697 to 1718, remembered as a warrior who defeated the Russians at Narva, later defeating Peter the Great and nearly taking Moscow. He was eventually forced to retreat and go into exile, where he was killed during the Siege of Fredriksten. Significant manuscript DS in Swedish, signed “Carolus,” three pages both sides, 8 x 12, November 20, 1717. Untranslated military document concerning the organization of troops, signed at the conclusion by King Charles XII of Sweden. In fine condition, with a rusty circular paperclip impression to the top of the last page. Accompanied by an unsigned engraved portrait. A superb document signed just one year before his death on the battlefield.
