American politician (1801-1872) who served as Secretary of State from 1861 to 1869, and was one of the targets of the 1865 assassination plot that killed Lincoln. Hand-addressed mailing envelope, 5.25 x 3, filled out by William H. Seward, who addresses the envelope to “Mr. Frank Baker…Wesleyan University, Delaware, Ohio,” and adds his franking signature above the “Free” stamp in the upper right, “Will. H. Seward.” In fine condition, with light soiling. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder, grading the autograph as "EX-MT 6."
