American politician and lawyer (born 1819) from Indiana who served as the 16th governor of Indiana from 1873 to 1877 and the 21st vice president of the United States from March until his death in November 1885. Hand-addressed ‘General Land Office’ mailing envelope, 8.75 x 3.75, filled out in another hand and addressed to Vermont Senator Justin Smith Morrill, franked in the upper right corner, “T. A. Hendricks.” Bold secretarial notations date the envelope to January 1858. In fine condition, with filing notations rendering the signature difficult to discern. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder, grading the autograph as "NM 7." Hendricks served as commissioner of the General Land Office from 1855 to 1859.
