American politician from Maine (1806-1869) who served in the United States House of Representatives and Senate before becoming Secretary of the Treasury under President Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War. Hand-addressed mailing envelope, 5 x 3, filled out by William P. Fessenden and addressed to author Hugh D. McLellan of Gorham, Maine, franked in the upper right corner, "W. P. Fessenden, USS.” In fine condition, with light handling wear. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder, grading the autograph as "NM 7."
