Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (born 1777) from 1836 until his death in 1864. Before holding that office, Taney served as secretary of the treasury and attorney general. Uncommon 2.25 x 3.75 carte-de-visite photo of Chief Justice Taney in a full-length pose, signed and inscribed on the reverse in ink, "For Miss Molly Smith, from R. B. Taney.” In fine condition.
