Winner’s medal issued for the Los Angeles 1984 Summer Olympics. Gilt silver, 63.5 mm, 144 gm, designed by Dugald Stermer and struck by Jostens, Indianapolis. Inspired by the original design by Giuseppe Cassioli, the front of the medal is inscribed, “XXIII Olympiad, Los Angeles 1984,” and features a ‘Seated Victory’ with the Colosseum in the background, and the reverse portrays a victorious athlete being carried by a jubilant crowd. The edge is inscribed with the name of the event, "Weightlifting”; the athlete's name will be provided to the winning bidder. Complete with original magenta, vermillion, and yellow ribbon, which is separated at the seam. Exhibits some rubbing and wear to the gilt on the rim, the edge, and relief high points. Only 478 of these gold medals were produced for the LA Games. A scarce, attractive medal from this memorable USA-hosted Olympiad. Accompanied by a signed letter of provenance from the winning athlete.
