French military commander (1762-1833) who served during the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars, remembered for his decisive victory over the First Coalition at the Battle of Fleurus during the Flanders campaign. He was made a Marshal of the Empire by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1804. ALS in French, signed “Jourdan,” one page, 6.75 x 7.75, August 4, 1799. Untranslated handwritten letter by Jourdan regarding General Massena. In very good to fine condition, with trimmed edges, overall wrinkling, and a rusty circular paperclip impression to the top.
