Amazing original painting by artist Richard Williams for the front cover of MAD Magazine’s ‘Sex & Dating’ Super Special issue from November 1993, which depicts a beautiful blonde woman sticking her tongue into the ear of magazine mascot Alfred E. Neuman, from whose other ear, and much to his delight, the wiggling tongue emerges. Expertly accomplished in oil paint on 13.75 x 17.75 artist board, which is signed in lower right in paint, “R. A. Williams.” Framed without glass and in very fine condition.
Accompanied by a copy of the ‘Sex & Dating’ issue, featuring the offered painting, which is signed on the front cover in black felt tip by Williams, a copy of the envelope and provenance letter, "I, Richard A. Williams do swear that this painting is the original painting created for Mad Magazine’s November 1993 Sex and Dating super special issue," and a letter of provenance from the consignor, who affirms that, "In May of 1994, I contacted Richard Williams...and asked him if he still had the original oil painting of the cover of the November 1993 Mad Magazine...I told him that I was interested in buying it, and we agreed on a price."
A brilliant original work by Williams, one of MAD’s most recognizable artists, whose first commission for the magazine nearly 40 years ago was when he created the cover art for the special Star Wars: Return of the Jedi issue from October 1983, which revealed that Darth Vader was, in fact, Mr. T. His client list includes IBM, NBC, Hallmark, Esquire, Reader's Digest, and TV Guide, to name but a few, and private buyers of his artwork include Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and Howard Stern.
