American politician and lawyer (1888-1964) who served as the 45th mayor of Cleveland, as a U.S. Senator from Ohio, and as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, in which capacity he wrote the majority opinion in Joint Anti-Fascist Refugee Committee v. McGrath (1951) and Lorain Journal Co. v. United States (1951). He also helped shape the Court's unanimous decision in Brown v. Board of Education (1954). Matte-finish 7.25 x 9.25 Bachrach photo of Burton seated in his judicial robe, affixed to the original 8.25 x 10.75 mount, signed and inscribed on the mount in the lower border in fountain pen, “To Virginia Howell, with best wishes from, Harold H. Burton, Associate Justice, Supreme Court of the United States, 3/19/47.” In very good to fine condition, with corner creasing, staple holes to the edges, and some light silvering to the image.
