Description

Colorful and crass, Dylan pens a toilet triumph: "I thought I saw Humphrey pissing / into a hot bowl of tomatoe soup"

Imaginative and rather lengthy handwritten poem in pencil by Bob Dylan, signed at the top, "Dylanism," and at the bottom, "Dylan," one page, 8.5 x 11, taken from his circa 1960 'Poems Without Titles' penned while at the University of Minnesota. The coarse poem begins,

"I thought I saw Humphrey pissing
into a hot bowl of tomatoe soup"

and goes on to tell the crass tale in colorful detail:

"The deep yellow splurbs of thunder
that shook all humanity
he pissed beer; he pissed rum
he pissed whiskey; he pissed wine—
the deep, rich, red wine
that he drank only the night before."

In very good to fine condition, with minor edge chipping, and old tape stains to the top edge. In spite of its boorish subject matter, this poem reveals Dylan's crude sense of humor in late adolescence—poetically rendered in highly creative detail. Taken as an exercise in poetic imagery, this may be considered a triumph in toilet humor.
