Signed in ink on the first free end page, "Margaret Mitchell." Autographic condition: very good to fine, with minor soiling and a tiny tear to the right edge of the signed page. Book condition: G+/P, with cracked hinges, edgewear, light soiling to boards, and wear to spine ends; the price-clipped jacket is tattered with heavy losses to spine, front and back panels and flaps mostly intact but separated from spine, various tears and creases, and several tape stains.
Mitchell became so overwhelmed by the countless requests that she received to autograph copies of her novel that less than a year after its publication she vowed not to sign any more, not even for close friends or relatives. A sought-after copy of this 20th century classic, particularly elusive in uninscribed examples.
