Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, the Beatles released a double A-side single with 'Penny Lane' and 'Strawberry Fields Forever' in February 1967 to satisfy their record company's demand for a new release. 'Penny Lane' became the band's thirteenth single to reach number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was certified gold on March 20, 1967. In 2021, Rolling Stone ranked the track at number 280 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
