ALS, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.25 x 7, White House letterhead, no date but postmarked April 18, 1938. Handwritten letter to Raymond Adolphe, in full: "I am thinking of you often & Al & I have talked of you much. It seems hard that your sweet & charming wife could not have been spared. At least you have had years of happiness together which is not given to many people. You made her very happy & that must be a great consolation. Nothing can help this loneliness, however, which I know you must feel && I only hope that your friends may be of some help. Please come to Hyde Park when I get up there in June. The President joins me in deep sympathy & we both feel a personal sense of loss. I was very fond of Mrs. Adolphe." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Roosevelt's hand.
