ALS signed “J. Fenimore Cooper,” one page, 8.25 x 10.5, September 29, 1839. Addressed from the "Mansion House," a handwritten letter to John Jacob Werner, in full: "I hear that our friend Bolton sails for the Mediterranean to day, and as he has one of the finest frigates in the service, I trust he will not only have a pleasant passage, but an agreeable cruise. Did he think of the letters you desired to possess, before he sailed?—If not I have one of the sort you mentioned, which is perfectly at your service, and I write merely to say so. As you think of traveling, I suppose you will meet somewhere in Italy next year, and where I sincerely wish I might also hope to fall in with you both." In very good to fine condition, with light creasing, and multiple intersecting folds.
