French fashion designer and businesswoman (1883-1971) celebrated as the founder and namesake of the Chanel brand. Exceedingly rare vintage glossy 8 x 10 photo of Coco Chanel wearing a stylish coat at the bottom of a winding staircase, signed and inscribed in black felt tip to the Broadway producer Frederick Brisson, "Pour Freddy, avec toute mon amitie, Coco.” In fine condition, with some light scattered surface creasing.
Brisson was the producer of the 1969 Broadway musical Coco, inspired by the life of Coco Chanel, which featured a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by André Previn. The show starred Katharine Hepburn in her only stage musical. Coco Chanel's autograph is tremendously rare in any format—this is the first we have offered—and its association with the musical based on her life makes it even more desirable.
