German publicist and politician (1875-1921) who spoke out against World War I and signed the armistice between Germany and the Allied Powers as head of the German delegation; he was assassinated in 1921 by the right-wing terrorist group Organisation Consul. Ink signature, "M. Erzberger," on an off-white 5 x 2.75 slip. In fine condition, with a rusty circular paperclip impression to the top.
