Description

Two souvenir typescripts signed by Sarah T. Hughes and Father Oscar L. Huber, offering their firsthand accounts following the Kennedy assassination in Dallas on November 22, 1963.

The one-page statement from Hughes, the judge who swore in Lyndon B. Johnson as President of the United States on Air Force One, is entitled "Judge Handed Copy of Oath on Airplane," and reads, in part: "The Vice-President said Mrs. Kennedy wanted to be present for the ceremony, and in a very few minutes she appeared. Her face showed her grief, but she was composed and calm. She, too, exemplified the courage this country needs to carry on."

The one-page report from Huber, the Roman Catholic priest who administered the last rites to President John F. Kennedy, is entitled "Last Moments with President Kennedy," and reads, in part: "Upon arriving at Parkland Hospital with scarcely a moment's delay on the way, I was escorted directly to the emergency room where the wounded President Kennedy, covered with a sheet, was lying on the emergency room tableā€¦I removed, to the tip of the nose, the sheet that covered the President's head and immediately began administering the Last Rites of the Catholic Church." In overall fine condition, with a partial separation to a fold on the Huber typescript. Accompanied by a modern photo of LBJ being sworn in as president, a limited edition booklet from Rev. James N. Thompson entitled "Around One O'clock," and an original mailing envelope.
