Scarce, crystal-clear vintage matte-finish 5 x 8 portrait of Wells working at his desk, affixed to its original 7.75 x 10 mount, signed in the lower right in fountain pen, "With the warmest gratitude, H. G. Wells, August 1918." In very good to fine condition, with old adhesive residue to the edges of the trimmed mount. A marvelous image of the prolific British author, whose visionary sci-fi works include The Time Machine (1895), The Island of Doctor Moreau (1896), The Invisible Man (1897), and The War of the Worlds (1898).
