Description

Important Norwegian composer and pianist (1843-1907) whose works, often with a strong nationalistic flavor, include such repertory staples as the 'Piano Concerto in A minor,' the incidental music to Peer Gynt, and the 'Holberg Suite.' ALS in German, penned on the reverse of a 5.5 x 3.5 Danish postal card, November 9, 1894. Addressed from Copenhagen, a handwritten letter to music publisher William Augener of London, in full (translated): "I am very sorry that Mr. Francesco can't leave you in peace. Since my Pegasus is never saddled, as Mr. B. seems to believe, so of course I can't say what I'm going to write until the next season. The question is silly. But it is true that the English Oratorio compositions are to be written for Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, depending upon requirement. Enviable work! I can't do it. We are installed here for the winter months, and hardly come to London." In fine condition.
