Description

German zoologist (1862-1937) who was a proponent of what he called 'old-Darwinism' or 'orthoevolution.' He coined the terms 'pleiotropy'—which occurs when one gene influences two or more seemingly unrelated phenotypic traits—and 'orthoselection,' conceptualizing a synthesis of natural selection and orthogenesis. ALS in German, signed “L. Plate,” one page, 5.5 x 3.5, November 3, 1911. Untranslated handwritten letter to Dr. Lakowitz in Danzig. In fine condition.
