Description

American politician (1760-1833) who succeeded Alexander Hamilton as Secretary of the Treasury under Washington and Adams, and went on to serve as governor of Connecticut. Revolutionary War-dated manuscript DS, signed “Oliv. Wolcott, Jr., Aud.,” one page, 8 x 6, March 16, 1780. Pay order issued to Treasurer John Lawrence, in part: "Pay Mr. Guy Richard Jr. Five hundred pounds Cont'l Curr'y & charge the State Pay Table Office." Signed by two members of the committee, and prominently endorsed over the text by Wolcott as auditor. In fine condition.
