ALS, one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, no date. Letter to "my dear young friends," in full: "My message to you is: Remember Gerhart Hauptmann's words: 'Nature is a workshop and man is the workman therein.'" In very good to fine condition, with scattered staining to the perimeter. Interestingly, Rachmaninoff appears to have misattributed this piece of advice: it appears in Ivan Turgenev's Fathers and Sons ('Nature is not a temple, but a workshop, and man's the workman in it').
