Description

Businessman and philanthropist (1861-1940) whose department store company merged with F. W. Woolworth & Co. in 1912. Kirby became a Vice President of the F. W. Woolworth & Co., which was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. TLS signed “F. M. Kirby,” one page, 8.5 x 11, F. M. Kirby & Co. letterhead, January 31, 1912. Letter to Fay S. Dean, in full: "As I shall probably never send you another profit sharing settlement check, I want to take this occasion to tell you my appreciation of your faithfulness and intelligent management of the business during all of the years we have been together. I feel that you have always used exceptionally good judgment, and I sincerely hope that your relations with the new Company will be as pleasant as they have been with the old management. I shall sadly miss the personal connection." In fine condition.
