Description

British social reformer (1801-1885) known as the 'Poor Man's Earl,' who campaigned for better working conditions, reform to lunacy laws, education, and the limitation of child labor. ALS signed "Shaftesbury," one page, 4.5 x 7, personal letterhead, October 20, 1851. Handwritten letter to F. Stowe Turner, accepting an invitation in his difficult-to-decipher hand. In fine condition.
