American financier (1826-1893) who was a partner of J. P. Morgan and founder of Drexel University. Rare and important partly-printed DS, signed “A. J. Drexel,” one page, 11.75 x 8, March 24, 1886. Stock certificate for 100 shares in the Saint Paul & Duluth Railroad Company issued to Anthony Joseph Drexel, endorsed on the reverse by Drexel. The original receipt remains affixed to the left edge. In fine condition, with staining along the left edge. A fine example from the influential financier. The consignor notes that only around five of these certificates exist today.
