American politician (1839-1902) who earned the moniker 'Czar Reed' for his shrewd, aggressive tactics as Speaker of the House in the 1890s. ALS signed “T. B. Reed,” one page, 5.75 x 9, September 12, 1894. Handwritten letter to Governor Daniel Russell Brown of Rhode Island, in full: "You were very kind to write me and I was glad to get your letter. If we can only have equal results thro' the North we will have a country again fit to live in." In fine condition, with paper loss to the upper left corner.
