ALS signed “B. Disraeli,” four pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.75 x 7.5, embossed Chancellor of the Exchequer letterhead, April 16, 1859. Handwritten letter marked "Private," addressed to W. R. Fitzgerald, in part: "This is a critical moment in the history of this country—for the elements of the next House of Commons, the character of the English constitution depends. It is of the greatest importance, that the large constituencies sh'd be enlisted on the side of the Conservative party, & this never can be obtained, unless men of mark & political position, will advance as candidates for this representation." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original hand-addressed mailing envelope, which bears Disraeli's franking signature in the lower left.
