Swatch of Cochran's scarf worn "when I became the first woman to break the sound barrier"

Female pilot (1906-1980) who was the first of her gender to break the sound barrier and is said to have more aviation records and awards than any pilot in the United States. Unique pairing of two items: a white silk swatch of Cochran's scarf worn on multiple record-setting flights, affixed inside one of her personal 4.5 x 3.25, signed in blue ballpoint, "Jacqueline Cochran," with typed caption: "This scarf was worn by me on my flight in the F-86 Sabre Jet on May 8, 1953 at Edwards Air Force Base, when I became the first woman to break the sound barrier"; and a TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, January 10, 1958, detailing the flights on which the scarf was worn, including three world speed records and a woman's altitude record. In fine condition.
