French political figure and general (1760-1794) during the French Revolution, who was the first husband of Joséphine de Beauharnais, later empress of the French as wife of Napoleon Bonaparte; he was guillotined during the Reign of Terror. ALS in French, signed “Alexandre de Beauharnais,” one page, 6.75 x 8.75, January 17, 1792. Handwritten letter to his father François V de Beauharnais, expressing his sincere hope that his correspondent will enjoy every blessing. This is a very critical year and he trusts that peace and order will be maintained in the Republic. Addressed on the integral leaf by Alexandre to "Monsieur de Beauharnais, chef des cadre des armées navales," retaining its red wax seal. In fine condition.
