American actress, writer, and civil rights activist (1922-2014) who originated the role of Ruth Younger in the stage and film versions of A Raisin in the Sun. Very early vintage pearl-finish 8 x 10 photo of Dee by the Lucas and Monroe Studio of New York, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, "To Eddie—An artist whom I greatly admire. Sincerely yours, Ruby Dee.” Lower right corner bears the photography studio blindstamp. In very good to fine condition, with tack holes to the corners, a crease to the upper left corner, a tear to the left edge, and a light surface scratch impinging on her left cheek.
