ALS signed “Rawdon,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 7.25 x 8.75, June 25, 1790. Handwritten letter to noted diplomat and antiquarian William Hamilton (husband of Emma Hamilton, famed as Horatio Nelson's mistress), introducing the famous maritime painter John Thomas Serres. In part: "You know that Mr. Serres is very eminent in his line of Painting; but it is upon the assurance of his likewise bearing a worthy & gentleman-like private character that I take the liberty of recommending Mr. Serres to your protection. I know the importance of your countenance at Naples, and shall be adequately obliged to your favor on the occasion. We are up to the ears in all the bustle of contested elections…When you shall have been satisfied with the beauties of Italy, & shall revisit England, I shall hope to tempt you again to scenes which you used to relish."
