DS, one page, 6 x 4, no date but stamped July 25, 1968. UK customs embarkation card that Jimi Hendrix fills out entirely in his own hand. The various fields, as follows: Port of Disembarkation: “New York,” Surname: “Hendrix,” Forename: “James,” Birth date: “Nov. 27 42,” Birthplace: “Seattle, USA,” Gender: “M,” Nationality: “American,” Occupation: “Musician,” Passport number: “G1044108,” and UK address: “39 Gerrard St., London W-1.” Hendrix has signed his name at the conclusion. In fine condition.
This card dates to when Hendrix and the Experience departed England to begin their second tour of North America in 1968. Five days later, on July 30th, the band played two shows at Independence Hall in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; this concert would be the first of many for Hendrix before the year was out, some six months until he returned to England in January 1969. A remarkable rock and roll keepsake, filled out by Hendrix at the peak of his powers—in 1968, Billboard named him the Artist of the Year and Rolling Stone declared him the Performer of the Year.
