Scarce ‘Cape Kennedy Medals’ patch for the Apollo 12 mission, 3″ in diameter, fully embroidered with merrowed edge and tail. In fine condition. One of the rarer mission patch variants.
Originates from the estate of Robert Schaal, who was a thermionics expert/researcher at NASA Lewis Research Center from 1959-1992. Among assignments, he worked in the propulsion program at Plum Brook and the SNAP-27 program, which used thermionics to put a small nuclear reactor in space, on the moon, and to provide electricity to modules.
