Description

British naval administrator and explorer (1764-1848) who mapped the interior of South Africa and promoted the exploration of the Arctic; the Barrow Strait in northern Canada was named in his honor. LS signed “Jno. Barrow,” one page, 7.75 x 12.25, November 19, 1834. As secretary to the admiralty, Barrow sends a message to Rear Admiral Sir Graham Hammond, ordering a lieutenant home "on account of his Family affairs." He requests that he "be discharged and sent to England by any opportunity of a Ship of War." In fine condition.
