ALS in French, signed "Charles R," one page, 6 x 7.75, February 22, 1655. Handwritten letter to "My Cousin." In full (translated): "Although I have already convinced you by my speech how touched I am by your attentions and the duty I feel towards you, I can not refrain to now confirm this truth by writing and together to repeat the promise that we made each other of a true and constant friendship of which I flatter myself never to lose any opportunity to prove to you at any time, as I am grateful for the sincere and generous affection you have shown toward everything that concerns me." In very good to fine condition, with irregular toning and the writing a few shades light.
It is interesting to note that he signs "Charles R," as he was technically no longer king after being overthrown by Oliver Cromwell. Charles spent nine years in exile as he traveled throughout Europe, writing this particular letter from Cologne. It seems that this letter must be to another prince or member of European royalty who supported his cause for a return to the throne, which he famously achieved in the Restoration of 1660.
