Gordon,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.25 x 8, September 17, 1878. Handwritten letter from "Kartoum," in part: "We have had the most extraordinary season, the Rain began, to rise very late…I fear it will do much damage in Egypt….All the deserts have been flooded. Korosko desert is covered with grass, a thing never before heard of." In fine condition, with light toning from prior display.
