FBI agent and archetypal 'G-Man' (1903-1960) responsible for the capture of John Dillinger, 'Pretty Boy' Floyd, 'Baby Face' Nelson, and other notorious gangsters. TLS signed “Mel,” one page, 8.5 x 11, October 26, 1937. Letter asking for some clothes to be sent to him in New York, in part: "When I left San Francisco I had no idea that I would have to stay in New York this long and now I find that the wintry winds are howling and my slender figure is getting cold. Would you mind having Miss Watson call Milton and have him come by to see you. When you see him ask him to tell you where my overcoat is stored and then get it and send it to me. I believe it might be stored at the Mark Hopkins but I am not sure and it might be at the warehouse with my furniture and other things. If it is locked up somewhere let me know where it is supposed to be and I will see if I can find a key for the trunk or wherever it is…When you go over my clothes in search of my overcoat, I would also like to have you write me and let me know what suits I have to which you might have access right away without my sending a key…I might ask you to send me a suit or two." In fine condition.
