Description

American aeronaut and inventor (1832-1913) whose Union balloon corps tracked enemy movements during the Civil War, known as the father of military aerial reconnaissance in the United States. LS signed “T. S. C. Lowe,” one page, 5 x 8, September 5, 1867. Letter to manufacturer James T. Ames, in full: "Your favor of the 3rd is at hand, and I was sorry to learn that the draft was not fully paid. I have seen Mr. Chenery and he says the balance will be sent soon. He attributes the delay to the unexpected absence of one of his parties from the city—other matters look prosperous here, and I expect money from another quarter soon, and orders for more machinery,—I shall probably be in Chicopee next Tuesday." In fine condition, with light toning along the vertical fold.
