German novelist (1871-1950) who wrote works with social themes. From 1930 until 1933 he was president of the fine poetry division of the Prussian Academy of Arts. His numerous criticisms of the growth of fascism forced him to flee Germany after the Nazis came to power during 1933. Rare vintage matte-finish 3.75 x 5.75 photo of Heinrich Mann by the H. Rex Studio of Oberammergau, Germany, affixed to the original 7.75 x 11 studio mount, which is signed in fountain pen. In fine condition. One of the Mann's most important works was the 1905 novel Professor Unrat, which achieved notoriety through film adaptations, most notably 1930's Der blaue Engel, or The Blue Angel, which starred Marlene Dietrich, Emil Jannings, and Kurt Gerron, and was directed by Josef von Sternberg.
