Infamous French courtesan (1743-1793) who was the last mistress of Louis XV. Accused of aiding emigres from the Revolution, she was imprisoned, tried, and executed during the Reign of Terror. Third-person ADS in French, signed “M. de la Contesse du Barry,” one page, 7 x 4.5, July 9, 1788. Untranslated receipt penned in the hand of du Barry, incorporating her name within the text. In fine condition, with a small rusty paperclip impression to the left edge, and a small piece of old tape on the right edge.
