Description

Attorney and politician (1745-1819) who played an influential role in the development of the United States Constitution at the 1787 Philadelphia Convention, and later served as the sixth and tenth governor of Massachusetts. Partly-printed DS, one page, 15.5 x 9.75, April 10, 1816. As governor of Massachusetts, Strong appoints Thomas Davis "to be Ensign in a Company in the sixth Regiment of Infantry in the Second Brigade, and Second Division of the Militia of the Commonwealth." Signed in the upper left by Governor Strong and countersigned by Alden Bradford as Secretary of the Commonwealth. In very good condition, with splits to folds repaired with archival tape on the reverse.
