Eminent French sculptor (1834-1904) best known for designing the Statue of Liberty. ALS in French, signed “Bartholdi,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4 x 5.25, personal letterhead, no date. Handwritten letter to "Mon cher Burty." Bartholdi invites Burty to dinner with some friends. He is self-deprecating about his bachelor cooking and adds that he would like Burty to come because he has a request to make of Burty, although he reassures Burty that the request is not something to worry about. He had planned to go see Burty earlier in the week but had been tied up with work. In fine condition, with two rusty paperclip impressions to the top of the first page.
