Union general (1816-1870) whose most decisive victory earned him the sobriquet 'Rock of Chickamauga.' Civil War-dated ALS signed "Geo. H. Thomas, Maj. Gen'l U. S. V.," one page, 5 x 7.5, Chattanooga, February 11, 1863. Handwritten letter to a colonel, in part: "It is with much pleasure that I comply with your request to send you my autograph if it can be of any benefit to so charitable an institution as the Christian Commission." In very good to fine condition, with trimmed edges and heavy staining along the top edge.
