TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, November 20, 1967. Letter to Paul Schrader, associated editor of The Calvin College Chimes (and future screenwriter of Taxi Driver and Raging Bull). In full: "Thanks for sending me your piece which I thought not uninteresting, but I hope you're more accurate in some of your other details than you are about me. I didn't write 'Why Are We In Vietnam?' in six weeks, but in five months, and I didn't do it to pay off a debt. I did it to fulfill a contract and my intention in stating that was to be ironic, as if someone had asked Styron why he wrote Nat Turner, and he answered, to become famous. But even someone who seems as intelligent as yourself takes me literally. I think from now on I'd better reserve my humor for my family and the dear ones who work for me." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
