"Collect together all negroes"—scarce 1862 letter from Yorktown

Union general who commanded a brigade in the Army of the Potomac during the Peninsula Campaign (1815-1886). Civil War-dated ALS signed “Naglee, B. G. Comdg.,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, November 22, 1862. Intriguing handwritten telegraph letter to Captain Hennessy, sent from Yorktown. In full: "Collect together all negroes that have not some responsible citizen to respond for them, and send them forthwith, with a guard to Newport News." In fine condition.
